Classroom Chronicles: Part 9
As a sixth grade teacher, I have the privilege of getting kids when they slowly begin to figure out who they are as individuals. I also have to deal with all the awkwardness and chaos that comes with their respective journeys of self discovery. I have a particularly awkward kid who is currently having a major identity crisis and can't even decide what he wants his name to be. For a week it was a different name every day. He has finally settled on alternating between two names. One is a jumble of letters, the other the actual name printed on his birth certificate. He's so confused. In my head I refer to him as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Unfortunately, both Jekyll and Hyde are currently failing. I wish he'd spend more time completing his assignments and less time deciding on a name.
