New Year, New....Yeah, It's a New Year!

Hello 2016!

I'll start by saying that if you are reading this in the hope of one more person affirming your "New Year, New Me" mantra, you've absolutely come to the wrong place.  I have never been a fan of setting resolutions at the beginning of every year because, let's face it, there were plenty of opportunities to improve undesirable behaviors.  12 months, 365 days, 8,760 hours....however you may wish to view it...there were that many opportunities to do something differently.  While I do believe that each new year brings with it an opportunity for a clean slate, I do not feel the need to resolve at Day 1 to take on a list of resolutions that will likely result in the sting of disappointment around Day 97.  I, however, have once again chosen to accept the everyday challenge of being better than I was the day before, and that challenge has proven to be more than enough!

If you're thinking that I'm a jaded pessimist, you would be mistaken.  I am a realist who makes decisions based on logic and reasoning and a set of guiding principles embedded in my faith.  I am indeed excited about it being the start of a New Year simply because I can honestly say that I haven't done anything I regret this year! 24 hours ago, that would have been a bold faced lie.  This was the first time in 6 years that I was doing exactly what I wanted to do before the stroke of midnight on NYE.  I was not roaming the streets of a crowded downtown metropolitan, or awkwardly standing next to an old flame, or excitedly screaming at the top of my intoxicated lungs with my closest friends.  I made THE BEST sangria (recipe courtesy of Emeril Lagasse, look for it in another post soon!) and spent 30 minutes socializing at a NYE gathering before making the wisest decision of 2015.  At 11:59 PM on December 31, I was sitting on my couch next to my sister watching the ball drop on TV and I could not have been happier.

I started out this year doing exactly what I wanted for a change, and that is precisely how I plan to spend the next 366 days (it's a leap year!).  Happy New Year, and may the odds be ever in your favor!
